Gorkhi Terelj National Park
Gorkhi – Terelj National Park is located 37 kilometers from Mongolia’s capital, Ulaanbaatar. This Strictly Protected Area has many residents living within its borders. Wolves, brown bear, marmots, and other wildlife call it home, and so do many herding families. These families’ herds are under a great deal of pressure from the large wolf population, and some families have lost as many as twenty sheep within six months. Though hunting is forbidden, dead wolves are sometimes found by rangers within the park. These wolves are victims of the guns or traps of herders who are only doing what they can to protect their livelihoods. By placing our dogs with herders living within the park, we will reduce the number of sheep killed by wolves, and therefore reduce the number of wolves targeted by local herders.
